Computer Usage I    CUS110B
Basic typing skills; principles of Windows, as well as other applicable subject matter regarding the use and functioning of computers; principles of word-processing; the Internet; practical work.
Computer Usage II    CUS210A
Spreadsheets; graphics packages; presentation software and applications; WWW authoring; practical work.
Computer Usage III    CUS300A
Defining the medium; selected programs; computer-based training; various presentations in language, video and computer laboratories; advanced technology; evaluation criteria.
Intercultural Studies    ICS101A
Aspects such as culture and manifestations of culture are discussed. Cultural differences, sub-cultures and customs are discussed and studied in the South African context.

Practical Third Languages
[Practical French, German, Sign Language, Sotho (Northern), Spanish, Tswana, Zulu]
These practical, career-oriented third or foreign language courses aim at functionally useful oral and written skills, and understanding of the relevant culture. Based on a communicative approach, these courses start at the beginners' level and by the end of the fourth year, students should normally have a fair to good command of the language. Practical work is also done in conjunction with Language and Translation Practice.

Listening skills; audience analysis; formulating messages; presentation techniques and effective oratory.
Video Theory and Practice I   VIT100A
How do TV and video work? Basic camera and lighting and sound recording; script writing and storyboarding; editing theory; directing theory; guest speakers; visits to broadcasting and production houses; evaluation of films and video productions; four video projects.
