MASTER'S DEGREE IN TECHNOLOGY: LANGUAGE PRACTICE

The General Rules and Regulations as stipulated in the Calendar, Part I, apply to this course.

Admission requirements:

B Tech in Language Practice, BA (Hons) in Languages, or an equivalent qualification. Departmental evaluation prior to registration is required. Additional requirements may apply to attain the required status, and a preliminary examination may be set.


OPTION 1: MASTER'S DEGREE WITH A RESEARCH PROJECT AND A FULL DISSERTATION

Course code: MTLAP0

Dissertation:

A candidate for the M Tech degree has to submit a dissertation on a research topic approved by the Faculty Board at the recommendation of the Head of Department.  Research Methodology is compulsory.

(If a candidate has not completed and passed a course in Research Methodology prior to registration for the M Tech, he/she will be required to include such an offering in the M Tech.)

RMD501A Research Methodology V

Duration:

A minimum of one year and a maximum of three years.


OPTION 2: MASTER'S DEGREE SPECIALIZING IN COMPUTER-ASSISTED LANGUAGE TEACHING (CALT)

Course code: MTLNG0

This is a partially-taught course. Candidates must select and pass two formal subjects before enrolling for a research project (mini-dissertation).

Additional admission requirements for this option: Advanced computer skills (i.e. solid skills in MSWindows, word-processing, presentation programs, spreadsheets, e-mail & the Internet).

Duration:

A minimum of two years and a maximum of three years.

Subject: Thesis

Admission requirements:

M Tech in Language Practice, MA (Languages) or an equivalent qualification. Departmental evaluation prior to registration is required. Additional requirements may apply to attain the required status. Preliminary examinations may be set.

Thesis:

The Doctorate in Technology: Language Practice, will be conferred on the basis of a thesis on a topic recommended by the Head of Department and approved by the Faculty Council.

Duration:

A minimum of two years.
